received from Shelterbox last week
Dear Win,
Thank you for your email. I apologise it’s taken so long to get back to
you but I’ve been out of the office for the past few days.
We’re delighted that you’ve chosen to fundraise for us and it sounds
like it’s already going really well! I’ve made sure that you’ll receive
box numbers and will have some materials to you as soon as possible.
If you need anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes,
James

whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now
Here is an email I received from
Shelterbox
We have recently been notified by JustGiving that you’ve created
an online fundraising page to support our disaster relief work.
With the recent situation in Japan, the support from people like
yourself is needed now more tha...n ever.
Foll ...owing
the huge 8.9 earthquake and tsunami, ShelterBox immediately
mobilised – a four man ShelterBox Response Team is already in
country and have began sorting in country logistics and assessing
affected areas. Hundreds of ShelterBoxes are either in Japan, or
on their way – we also have thousands more in prepositioned
locations around the world, ready to respond if needed. Our quick
response would not be possible without the efforts of our
fundraisers so once again, thank you.
The aid which will be sent to Japan in the days and weeks to come
will have been funded by donations previously received. These
would have ensured our aid and resources were in place, ready to
go as soon as disaster strikes. While the donations we now receive
may be used to fund aid sent to Japan, it is likely that they will
be used to restock all of our equipment so that next time we are
needed, we can respond just as quickly.
We want to be as honest with all our supporters as possible and
because of this, we would be extremely grateful if you could add
the following paragraph to your page:
ShelterBox have immediately responded to the catastrophe in Japan.
Their quick response would not be possible without the generous
donations of their supporters. Donating on this page will ensure
ShelterBox are always ready to provide shelter, warmth and dignity
to families made homeless by disaster as soon as it strikes.
If you would like to receive any materials to assist with your
fundraising, such as posters, flyers or balloons, please do not
hesitate to contact me and I’ll be delighted to help. I have also
attached a handy document which has some hints about making the
most of your JustGiving page.
I hope this makes sense. If you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes and once again, thank you for your generous support,
James Webb

VISITS
We had a lovely visit
from Tas when she brought over Pam Pam in November.
The following week
we met Kevin for the very first time---unfortunately he was on a very
long 3 week business trip so Terry was not able to come---this time. We
have been friends for nearly 9 years and now three of our cats--Leheho,Kanga
and Soulmate live in luxury in HongKong so it was exciting and such a
pleasure to eventually meet.
A few of our girls have
been retired or are retiring in the coming months and we have some
youngsters who have arrived here to take their place. Meet the
youngsters who give us so much fun at the moment!!

corners of the world-these show up on the Guestmap. Please take the time to send
us an email and say hello!!
Please read this --
FLUTD
We have been asked to put this
onto the website as a timely reminder to all owners of our cats and kittens.
Always have plenty of fresh clean
drinking water available and if possible feed wet food once a day especially
to boys. This could prevent the condition below. The sad fact is that
if a boy develops a urinary infection this can develop into FLUDT even if he
is drinking and eating healthily. Even if treated (a painful and difficult
business) this then often returns. Some dry foods (particularly James
Welbeloved) have added cranberry and thus are particularly suitable for
boys.
Feline
Lower Urinary Tract Disease
Cats with a urethral obstruction
will pass little or no urine and will become increasingly distressed. A
urethral obstruction is an absolute emergency, requiring immediate
veterinary treatment.
PLEASE check the litter tray
every day and if 24 hours pass with nothing in it---especially if you have a
male cat -then have him checked by your vet.
Urethral Obstruction
The most serious problem associated with urinary function is urethral
obstruction. Urethral obstruction-when the cat's urethra becomes partly or
totally blocked-is a potentially life-threatening condition and one of the
most serious results of FLUTD.
Male and neutered male cats are at
greater risk for obstruction than females, because their urethra is longer
and narrower. Urethral obstruction is a true
medical emergency, and any cat suspected of suffering from this condition
must receive immediate veterinary attention.
When the urethra is completely blocked, the kidneys are no longer able to
remove toxins from the blood and maintain a proper balance of fluids and
electrolytes in the body. If the obstruction is not relieved, the cat will
eventually lose consciousness and die. Death most frequently occurs as a
result of electrolyte imbalances, which ultimately cause heart failure.
The time from complete obstruction until
death may be less than twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
FATAL LILIES - PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS

A national alert has been issued to pet owners after
pollen from a bunch of supermarket flowers killed a cat.
When John Hartnett bought his wife oriental stargazer
lilies, he was unaware that he was passing a death sentence on the family's
13-year-old Siamese, Catalina.
The cat brushed against the flowers then licked the
pollen from its fur. Within minutes she started being sick and, within
hours, had died after going blind, suffering renal failure and becoming
virtually paralysed.
The RSPCA, which is reporting an increase in such cases,
is to launch a campaign to alert people to the dangers and lobby for
warnings on the flowers.
The RSPCA said: "The problem of lilies isn't widely
known and we are seeing an increase in the number of cases we come across.
This is because the flowers are becoming more readily available in Britain.
"All lilies are poisonous to cats, with just one leaf
eaten possibly leading to death. We will now be urging both manufacturers
and producers to issue warnings on their goods so that consumers have an
informed choice.
"We also hope to work with the Royal College for
Veterinary Surgeons' poison department to produce information fact sheets
and figures on this awful matter."
Mr Hartnett, 51, a computer engineer from Folkestone,
Kent, said: "Catalina was a curious, fastidious animal and would have
investigated the new flowers. But this proved absolutely fatal.
"She endured a vile death. She was suffering terribly. I
blame myself but the vet we rushed her to said there was just no chance to
save her.
"We have seen the flowers in many places, all with no
warnings at all. In America, I have discovered that there is immense
coverage on this subject warning people of the dangers but, here, there is
nothing.
"I can't believe something so simple as a flower can
kill pets in such a terrible, terrible way, and there is absolutely no way
of knowing about it."
